چکیده

Efficient direct solutions for the determination of a cylinder from points are presented. The solutions range from the well known direct solution of a quadric to the minimal solution of a cylinder with five points. In contrast to the approach of G. Roth and M. D. Levine (1990), who used polynomial bases for representing the geometric entities, we use algebraic constraints on the quadric representing the cylinder. The solutions for six to eight points directly determine all the cylinder parameters in one step: (1) The eight-point-solution, similar to the estimation of the fundamental matrix, requires to solve for the roots of a 3rd-order-polynomial. (2) The seven-point-solution, similar to the sixpoint-solution for the relative orientation by J. Philip (1996), yields a linear equation system. (3) The six-point-solution, similar to the fivepoint-solution for the relative orientation by D. Nister (2003), yields a ten-by-ten eigenvalue problem. The new minimal five-point-solution first determines the direction and then the position and the radius of the cylinder. The search for the zeros of the resulting 6th order polynomials is efficiently realized using 2D-Bernstein polynomials. Also direct solutions for the special cases with the axes of the cylinder parallel to a coordinate plane or axis are given. The method is used to find cylinders in range data of an industrial site.

Extraction of cylinders and cones from minimal point sets

We propose new algebraic methods for extracting cylinders and cones from minimal point sets, including oriented points. More precisely, we are interested in computing efficiently cylinders through a set of three points, one of them being oriented, or through a set of five simple points. We are also interested in computing efficiently cones through a set of two oriented points, through a set of ...

Estimating the Pose of a 3D Sensor in a Non-rigid Environment

Estimating the pose of an imaging sensor is a central research problem. Many solutions have been proposed for the case of a rigid environment. In contrast, we tackle the case of a non-rigid environment observed by a 3D sensor, which has been neglected in the literature. We represent the environment as sets of time-varying 3D points explained by a low-rank shape model, that we derive in its impl...

Number of Minimal Path Sets in a Consecutive-k-out-of-n: F System

In this paper the combinatorial problem of determining the number of minimal path sets of a consecutive-k-out-of-n: F system is considered. For the cases where k = 2, 3 the explicit formulae are given and for k ≥ 4 a recursive relation is obtained. Direct computation for determining the number of minimal path sets of a consecutive-k-out-of-n: F system for k ≥ 4 remains a difficult task. ...

Sweep Line Algorithm for Convex Hull Revisited

Convex hull of some given points is the intersection of all convex sets containing them. It is used as primary structure in many other problems in computational geometry and other areas like image processing, model identification, geographical data systems, and triangular computation of a set of points and so on. Computing the convex hull of a set of point is one of the most fundamental and imp...

Circular Cylinders through Four or Five Points in Space

The focus of this paper is the analysis of circular cylinders through sets of points in three dimensions. This investigation has a number of motivations. Clearly, if a cylinder of radius R and direction t passes through a set of points P , it means also that there is a line of direction t tangent to the sphere of radius R and centered at the points of P . Another interpretation is that an obser...
